Say hello to Volvo’s crossover saloon
Today brings a first for the automotive world with the arrival of the Volvo S60 Cross Country which will be unveiled full at this years motor show in Detroit. Thankfully, we don’t have to wait until the Detroit Motor Show to see the Crossover as Volvo has today published pictures of the S60 Cross Country and it would appear that it is a completely brand new type of car which will in turn create a whole new market sector.
In comparison to the original the S60 is jacked up, as you would expect, it is raised by 65mm. All wheel or front wheel drive is available and the wheels themselves will come with the choice of either 18- or 19-inch alloys. Commenting on the S60 Lex Kerssemakers (senior vice president product strategy and vehicle line management at Volvo Cars) said: “We want to further explore the market with our Cross Country brand. We did this back in 1997 with the Volvo V70 Cross Country and it led to the birth of a whole new segment. We have included all the capability-driven benefits of the Cross Country brand in this new model, while offering a completely unique expression of adventure and all-road readiness in a distinctly sporty and stylish package.”
Volvo think they have created a “more capable saloon with rugged styling cues and a higher stance” and by the looks of it they have done just that. The S60 Cross Country is due for UK release this summer with the entry level model costing just shy of £30,000. The car will join the Volvo V40 hatchback and Volvo V60 estate in Volvo’s Cross Country model range.
